223,437 words | ISBN-10: 8171101519

The Sanskrit edition of the Yoga-vasistha including English translation and grammatical analysis. The Yogavasistha is a Hindu spiritual text written by Valmiki (who also authored the Ramayana) dealing with the philosophical topics from the Advaita-vedanta school. Chronologically it precedes the Ramayana.

Verse 1.18.57

न किंचिदपि दृश्येऽस्मिन्सत्यं तेन हतात्मना ।
चित्रं दग्धशरीरेण जनता विप्रलभ्यते ॥ ५७ ॥

na kiṃcidapi dṛśye'sminsatyaṃ tena hatātmanā |
citraṃ dagdhaśarīreṇa janatā vipralabhyate || 57 ||

It is certain that whatever we see here is unreal, and yet it is a wonder, that the mass of men are led to deception by the vile body, which has injured the cause of the soul.
