The Sanskrit edition of the Yoga-vasistha including English translation and grammatical analysis. The Yogavasistha is a Hindu spiritual text written by Valmiki (who also authored the Ramayana) dealing with the philosophical topics from the Advaita-vedanta school. Chronologically it precedes the Ramayana.

Verse 1.3.11

वासना द्विविधा प्रोक्ता शुद्धा च मलिना तथा ।
मलिना जन्मनो हेतुः शुद्धा जन्मविनाशिनी ॥ ११ ॥

vāsanā dvividhā proktā śuddhā ca malinā tathā |
malinā janmano hetuḥ śuddhā janmavināśinī || 11 ||

Desires are of two kinds, pure and impure. The impure ones are the cause of transmigration, while the pure ones serve to destroy it.
