The Sanskrit edition of the Yoga-vasistha including English translation and grammatical analysis. The Yogavasistha is a Hindu spiritual text written by Valmiki (who also authored the Ramayana) dealing with the philosophical topics from the Advaita-vedanta school. Chronologically it precedes the Ramayana.

Verse 1.3.4

स चेह संभवत्येव तदर्थमिदमाततम् ।
शास्त्रमाकर्णयसि चेत्तत्त्वमाप्स्यसि नान्यथा ॥ ४ ॥

sa ceha saṃbhavatyeva tadarthamidamātatam |
śāstramākarṇayasi cettattvamāpsyasi nānyathā || 4 ||

It is possible here (on earth) to attain to this knowledge (of worldly vanities) which is fully expounded herein: if you will listen to it attentively, you shall get at the truth and not otherwise.
