The Sanskrit text and English translation of the Yavanajataka of Sphujidhvaja (circa 200 to 600 CE). The Yavana-jataka is an ancient text in Indian astrology possibly representing a versification of an earlier translation into Sanskrit of a Greek text, thought to have been written around 120 CE in Alexandria. This edition of the Yavanajataka also includes a word for word rendering from Sanskrit to English with parts of speech annotations. Note: There are a few inconclusive verses in this translation.
Verse 1.57
षष्ठं तृतीयं दशमं च राशिमेकादशं चोपचयर्क्षमाहुः ।
होरागृहस्थानशशाङ्कभेब्यः शेषाणि चैभ्योऽपचयर्क्षमाहुः ॥५७॥
ṣaṣṭhaṃ tṛtīyaṃ daśamaṃ ca rāśimekādaśaṃ copacayarkṣamāhuḥ |
horāgṛhasthānaśaśāṅkabhebyaḥ śeṣāṇi caibhyo'pacayarkṣamāhuḥ ||57||
They declared the sixth, third, tenth, and eleventh zodiac signs are upacaya (increasing) zodiac signs from those zodiac signs of the Moon or situated from the zodiac signs of the lagna. They declared those remaining are apacaya (decreasing) zodiac signs from these [the Moon and lagna].
