Sanskrit text, Unicode transliteration and English translation of verse 3.14.126:
वयस्विनि परिच्छेदः क्रीते चापि न गम्यते ।
इष्टो भेदादृते तत्र परिमाणमनर्थकम् ॥ १२६ ॥vayasvini paricchedaḥ krīte cāpi na gamyate |
iṣṭo bhedādṛte tatra parimāṇamanarthakam || 126 ||126. Without differentiation (specification) of the number, the desired determination of what has age or what is bought would not take place and the use of the words expressive of measure would be useless.
Commentary
[The exact determination of what is bought and what is born would be impossible without the understanding of the number one. The very use of the words expressive of measure (śūrpa and māsa) would be useless. Unless the measure is specified, what is measured would not be specified either. Therefore, in these two words the meaning of the secondary constituent is understood as qualified by the number one.]
