Verse 3.12.15
Sanskrit text, Unicode transliteration and English translation of verse 3.12.15:
तथा ह्यनुप्रयोगस्य करोतेरात्मनेपदे ।
पूर्ववद्ग्रहणं प्राप्ते स्वरितं समुपस्थितम् ॥ १५ ॥tathā hyanuprayogasya karoterātmanepade |
pūrvavadgrahaṇaṃ prāpte svaritaṃ samupasthitam || 15 ||15. And when the ātmanepada is due to come after kṛñ when it is to be used after umbh, the word pūrvavat (from the sūtra “pūrvavat sanaḥ” (P. 1.3.62) with its svarita accent is used (to prevent it).
Commentary
[How does one know that the meaning of the root kṛñ here includes saṃvidhāna, considering that the ātmanepada suffix is not visible here. P. 1.3.63 tells us that the root kṛñ, used after another root, takes ātmanepada even if the fruit of the action does not go to the agent, provided that the other root is otherwise eligible for it. When the fruit goes to the agent, the root takes ātmanepada according to P. 1.3.72.]
