Verse 3.9.22
Sanskrit text, Unicode transliteration and English translation of verse 3.9.22:
अनित्यस्य यथोत्पादे पारतन्त्र्यं तथा स्थितौ ।
विनाशायैव तत् सृष्टस्वाधीनस्थितिं विदुः ॥ २२ ॥anityasya yathotpāde pāratantryaṃ tathā sthitau |
vināśāyaiva tat sṛṣṭasvādhīnasthitiṃ viduḥ || 22 ||22. As the transitory depends upon others for its birth, so does it for its continuity. Otherwise, it would be born only to perish. That is why it has been declared that, depending upon something else, it continues to exist.
Commentary
Like its birth, its continuity also depends on others.

[Just as the effect depends upon its causes for its birth, in the same way, it depends upon them for its continued existence. But for their support, it would perish at once. It is not enough for a thing to be born. It must also continue to exist for sometime if it is at all to fulfil its purpose.]
