Sanskrit text, Unicode transliteration and English translation of verse 2.246:
विरुद्धं चाभिसम्बन्धमुदहार्यादिभिः कृतम् ।
वाक्ये समाप्ते वाक्यार्थमन्यथा प्रतिपद्यते ॥ २४६ ॥viruddhaṃ cābhisambandhamudahāryādibhiḥ kṛtam |
vākye samāpte vākyārthamanyathā pratipadyate || 246 ||246. In the sentence udahāri etc. one understands a contradictory relation between the words. But once the whole sentence is finished, a quite different meaning is understood.
Commentary
[The sentence: udahāri! bhagini! yā tvaṇi śirasānaḍvāhaṃ vahasi sā tvaṃ prācīnaṃ kumbham abhidhāvantam adrākṣīḥ, referred to in the verse, quoted by Puṇyarāja and the Vṛtti is probably older. Here, once the sentence is finished, a quite different meaning is understood: As the Vṛtti puts it—vākyasamāptau arthāntaropādānam arthāntaraparityāgaśca dṛśyate.]
