The Vaisheshika-sutra 6.1.7, English translation, including commentaries such as the Upaskara of Shankara Mishra, the Vivriti of Jayanarayana-Tarkapanchanana and the Bhashya of Chandrakanta. दुष्टं हिंसायाम् ॥ ६.१.७ ॥

duṣṭaṃ hiṃsāyām || 6.1.7 ||

duṣṭaṃ—wickedness, impurity; hiṃsāyām—in killing.

7. Impurity (lies) in killing.

Commentary: The Upaskāra of Śaṅkara Miśra:

Who are they that are called impure? Accordingly he states the characteristic of the impure.

Here ‘hiṃsāyām’ is indicative of all prohibited acts whatever. The meaning, therefore, is that a person, given to or occupied in a prohibited act, should be known as impure.—7.
