The Vaisheshika-sutra 5.2.22, English translation, including commentaries such as the Upaskara of Shankara Mishra, the Vivriti of Jayanarayana-Tarkapanchanana and the Bhashya of Chandrakanta. एतेन कर्माणि गुणाश्च व्याख्याताः ॥ ५.२.२२ ॥

etena karmāṇi guṇāśca vyākhyātāḥ || 5.2.22 ||

etena—by this; karmāṇi—actions; guṇāḥ—attributes; ca—and; vyākhyātāḥ—explained.

22. By this, Actions and Attributes are explained (as inactive).

Commentary: The Upaskāra of Śaṅkara Miśra:

He points out the inactivity of actions and attributes:

‘Etena’ means by difference from that which possesses activity. Difference from that which possesses activity, in other words, incorporeity or imponderableness, belongs to attribute and action. They are, therefore, explained to be inactive.—22.
