Note: Uttaṅka—An ideal disciple of Veda, the disciple of Āpoda-dhaumya (Mbh, Ādi. 3.83-184.)

Īśvara said:

1-2. Thereafter, a pilgrim should go to the excellent Uttaṅkeśvara shrine, O great goddess. It is situated not very far from the same deity (i.e. Kalakaleśvara) on the southern side.

It was devoutly installed by the noble-souled Uttaṅka himself. O great goddess, by visiting it, and touching it with great mental purity and concentration and by worshipping it devoutly and duly, one is rid of all sins.
