Chapter 75 - The Greatness of Śaṅkhacūḍa Tīrtha

[Sanskrit text for this chapter is available]

Śrī Mārkaṇḍeya said:

1-5. There is a great and beautiful Tīrtha on the southern bank of Narmaḍā. It is well-known in the terrestrial sphere by the name of Śaṅkhacūḍa, O son of Pāṇḍu. Śaṅkhacūḍa is himself present there on the pleasant bank of Narmadā, due to the fear of Vainateya (Garuḍa).

A person should remain clean with mental concentration and purity and bathe Śaṅkhacūḍa with milk, honey and ghee.

He should keep awake at night before the Lord. After honouring Brāhmaṇas of esteemed holy vows, with cooked rice soaked in curds, a cow should be gifted to an eminent Brāhmaṇa. Thereby all sins will be destroyed.

Libation should be offered (to the Pitṛs) killed by serpent bite. He shall go to the greatest world, as said by Śaṅkara.
