Sanskrit text and transliteration:

कोशातिरिक्तरूपस्य सर्वान्तरतमात्मनः ।
अक्रियस्यैव सङ्क्रान्तिर्नभोवत्स्यात्परात्मनः ॥ ५९० ॥

kośātiriktarūpasya sarvāntaratamātmanaḥ |
akriyasyaiva saṅkrāntirnabhovatsyātparātmanaḥ || 590 ||

English translation of verse 2.590:

The supreme Self, the innermost Self of all, which is immutable, and which is different from all sheaths, is said to be the knower (through ignorance) in the same way as ākāśa is said to provide space.

Notes:

The immutable Self is by itself nirguṇa. But it is looked upon as the knower only because of avidyā. When avidyā is removed through knowledge, jñāna-kartṛtva which is falsely ascribed to the Self also gets removed.
