भूतेभ्यः पूर्वनिष्पत्तेर्ज्येष्ठमन्नं विराड् भवेत् ।
स वै शरीरी प्रथमस्तथा पौराणिकी स्मृतिः ॥ २५८ ॥

bhūtebhyaḥ pūrvaniṣpatterjyeṣṭhamannaṃ virāḍ bhavet |
sa vai śarīrī prathamastathā paurāṇikī smṛtiḥ || 258 ||

English translation of verse 2.258:

Food which is the eldest is the Virāj, since it was the first to evolve before all beings. Hence, the statement of the Purāṇa, “He is, indeed, the first embodied one.”
