Sanskrit text and transliteration:
पृथिव्यग्निरथाचार्यो माता या चाधरा हनुः ।
पूर्वं स्यात्संहितारूपं दिवादित्याद्यथोत्तरम् ॥ ६२ ॥
pṛthivyagnirathācāryo mātā yā cādharā hanuḥ |
pūrvaṃ syātsaṃhitārūpaṃ divādityādyathottaram || 62 ||
English translation of verse 1.62:
The prior form (that is, letter) of the Saṃhitā should be meditated upon as earth, fire, teacher, mother, and the lower jaw. And, the posterior form (that is, letter) should be meditated upon as heaven, sun, etc.
Notes:
In the Saṃhitā or combination, terminal letter of the first word is called pūrvarūpa, while the initial letter of the second word is called uttararūpa. For instance, in a combination of words like iṣettvā (iṣe (t) tvā), the ‘e’ in iṣe is the terminal letter of the first word, and this is called pūrvarūpa. The initial letter ‘t’ of the second word tvā is called uttararūpa. While the pūrvarūpa must be meditated upon as earth, fire, teacher, mother, and the lower jaw, the uttararūpa should be meditated upon as heaven, sun, pupil, father, and the upper jaw.
