The English translation of the Sri Bhakti-rasamrta-sindhu verse 4.9.38; a medieval era Sanskrit book, written by Rupa Goswami (fl. 15th century) which represents a devotional (bhakti) masterpiece. In this work Goswami describes the nature and different forms of pure love (rasa) as well as various other topics on Vaishnavism and devotion.

अथ अपरसाः —
कृष्ण-तत्-प्रतिपक्षश् चेद् विषयाश्रयतां गताः ।
हासादीनां तदा ते’त्र प्राज्ञैर् अपरसा मताः ॥४.९.३८॥

atha aparasāḥ —
kṛṣṇa-tat-pratipakṣaś ced viṣayāśrayatāṃ gatāḥ |
hāsādīnāṃ tadā te’tra prājñair aparasā matāḥ
||4.9.38||

English translation

“If Kṛṣṇa becomes the viṣaya and His enemies become the āśraya of hāsya
and other secondary rasas, it is called aparasa by the wise.”
