The English translation of the Sri Bhakti-rasamrta-sindhu verse 4.9.15; a medieval era Sanskrit book, written by Rupa Goswami (fl. 15th century) which represents a devotional (bhakti) masterpiece. In this work Goswami describes the nature and different forms of pure love (rasa) as well as various other topics on Vaishnavism and devotion.

अत्यन्ताभाव एवात्र रतेः खलु विवक्षितः ।
एतस्याः प्राग्-अभावे तु शुचिर् नोपरसो भवेत् ॥४.९.१५॥

atyantābhāva evātra rateḥ khalu vivakṣitaḥ |
etasyāḥ prāg-abhāve tu śucir noparaso bhavet
||4.9.15||

English translation

“The intention of the previous verse is also to point out the temporary nature of the wives’ rati (atyanta abhāvaḥ). However, madhuroparasa does not arise here solely because the rati did not exist previously.”
