The English translation of the Sri Bhakti-rasamrta-sindhu verse 4.9.13; a medieval era Sanskrit book, written by Rupa Goswami (fl. 15th century) which represents a devotional (bhakti) masterpiece. In this work Goswami describes the nature and different forms of pure love (rasa) as well as various other topics on Vaishnavism and devotion.

अथ शृङ्गारोपरसः । तत्र स्थायि-वैरूप्यम् —
द्वयोर् एकतरस्यैव रतिर् या खलु दृश्यते ।
यान् एकत्र तथैकस्य स्थायिनः सा विरूपता ।
विभावस्यैव वैरूप्यं स्थायिन्य् अत्रोपचर्यते ॥४.९.१३॥

atha śṛṅgāroparasaḥ | tatra sthāyi-vairūpyam —
dvayor ekatarasyaiva ratir yā khalu dṛśyate |
yān ekatra tathaikasya sthāyinaḥ sā virūpatā |
vibhāvasyaiva vairūpyaṃ sthāyiny atropacaryate
||4.9.13||

English translation

Madhuroparasa:
“The sthāyī-bhāva of madhura-rasa is distorted where the love between two persons is one-sided or where one of the persons has many lovers. The distortion of the vibhāva brings about a distortion in the sthāyī-bhāva.”
