The English translation of the Sri Bhakti-rasamrta-sindhu verse 4.8.49; a medieval era Sanskrit book, written by Rupa Goswami (fl. 15th century) which represents a devotional (bhakti) masterpiece. In this work Goswami describes the nature and different forms of pure love (rasa) as well as various other topics on Vaishnavism and devotion.

अङ्गी मुख्यः स्वम् अत्राङ्गैर् भावैस् तैर् अभिवर्धयन् ।
सजातीयैर् विजातीयैः स्वतन्त्रः सन् विराजते ॥४.८.४९॥

aṅgī mukhyaḥ svam atrāṅgair bhāvais tair abhivardhayan |
sajātīyair vijātīyaiḥ svatantraḥ san virājate
||4.8.49||

English translation

“In a combination of rasas, the primary rasa that is the main aṅgī-rasa remains independent by nourishing itself through supportive bhāvas, which may be of the same variety or different, but not enemies.”
