The English translation of the Sri Bhakti-rasamrta-sindhu verse 4.8.18; a medieval era Sanskrit book, written by Rupa Goswami (fl. 15th century) which represents a devotional (bhakti) masterpiece. In this work Goswami describes the nature and different forms of pure love (rasa) as well as various other topics on Vaishnavism and devotion.

भवेन् मुख्यो’थ वा गौणो रसो’ङ्गी किल यत्र यः ।
कर्तव्यं तत्र तस्याङ्गं सुहृद् एव रसो बुधैः ॥४.८.१८॥

bhaven mukhyo’tha vā gauṇo raso’ṅgī kila yatra yaḥ |
kartavyaṃ tatra tasyāṅgaṃ suhṛd eva raso budhaiḥ
||4.8.18||

English translation

“When either a primary or secondary rasa becomes most predominant (aṅgī), all the friendly rasas become subordinate (aṅga).”
