The English translation of the Sri Bhakti-rasamrta-sindhu verse 4.5.4; a medieval era Sanskrit book, written by Rupa Goswami (fl. 15th century) which represents a devotional (bhakti) masterpiece. In this work Goswami describes the nature and different forms of pure love (rasa) as well as various other topics on Vaishnavism and devotion.

यथा विदग्ध-माधवे (२.३७) —
अन्तः-क्लेश-कलङ्किताः किल वयं यामो’द्य याम्यां पुरीं
नायं वञ्चन-सञ्चय-प्रणयिनं हासं तथाप्य् उज्झति ।
अस्मिन् सम्पुटिते गभीर-कपटैर् आभीर-पल्ली-विटे
हा मेधाविनि राधिके तव कथं प्रेमा गरीयान् अभूत् ॥४.५.४॥

yathā vidagdha-mādhave (2.37) —
antaḥ-kleśa-kalaṅkitāḥ kila vayaṃ yāmo’dya yāmyāṃ purīṃ
nāyaṃ vañcana-sañcaya-praṇayinaṃ hāsaṃ tathāpy ujjhati |
asmin sampuṭite gabhīra-kapaṭair ābhīra-pallī-viṭe
hā medhāvini rādhike tava kathaṃ premā garīyān abhūt
||4.5.4||

English translation

An example from Vidagdha-mādhava [2.37]:
“Today we will die, being afflicted by such great suffering. Kṛṣṇa cannot stop His cheating smiles. O intelligent Rādhā! Why were You in so much love with the lusty cowherd Kṛṣṇa covered with so much deceit?”
