The English translation of the Sri Bhakti-rasamrta-sindhu verse 4.4.3; a medieval era Sanskrit book, written by Rupa Goswami (fl. 15th century) which represents a devotional (bhakti) masterpiece. In this work Goswami describes the nature and different forms of pure love (rasa) as well as various other topics on Vaishnavism and devotion.

तथानवाप्त-तद्-भक्ति-सौख्यश् च स्व-प्रियो जनः ।
इत्य् अस्य विषयत्वेन ज्ञेया आलम्बनास् त्रिधा ॥४.४.३॥

tathānavāpta-tad-bhakti-saukhyaś ca sva-priyo janaḥ |
ity asya viṣayatvena jñeyā ālambanās tridhā
||4.4.3||

English translation

“The relatives of the devotee, or those devoid of the happiness of devotion also become the viṣaya of karuṇa-rasa. Thus there are three types of viṣaya.”
