The English translation of the Sri Bhakti-rasamrta-sindhu verse 4.3.42; a medieval era Sanskrit book, written by Rupa Goswami (fl. 15th century) which represents a devotional (bhakti) masterpiece. In this work Goswami describes the nature and different forms of pure love (rasa) as well as various other topics on Vaishnavism and devotion.

Sanskrit text, Unicode transliteration and English translation:

पूर्वतो’त्र विपर्यस्त-कारकत्वं द्वयोर् भवेत् ।
अस्मिन्न् उद्दीपनाः कृष्ण-कृपालाप-स्मितादयः ॥४.३.४१॥
अनुभावास् तद्-उत्कर्ष-वर्णन-द्रढिमादयः ।
अत्र सञ्चारिता भूम्ना धृतेर् एव समीक्ष्यते ॥४.३.४२॥

pūrvato’tra viparyasta-kārakatvaṃ dvayor bhavet |
asminn uddīpanāḥ kṛṣṇa-kṛpālāpa-smitādayaḥ
||4.3.41||
anubhāvās tad-utkarṣa-varṇana-draḍhimādayaḥ |
atra sañcāritā bhūmnā dhṛter eva samīkṣyate
||4.3.42||

English translation

“This person is the opposite of the sampradānaka-dānavīra (who gives to the Lord), for here the donor is the Lord and the beneficiary is the devotee. In this type of bhakti-rasa, the uddīpanas are the mercy of Kṛṣṇa, conversations of the Lord, and His smiles. The anubhāvas are conviction in the descriptions of the Lord’s qualities, and the vyabhicārī-bhāvas are such things as dhṛti (resoluteness).”
