The English translation of the Sri Bhakti-rasamrta-sindhu verse 3.1.51; a medieval era Sanskrit book, written by Rupa Goswami (fl. 15th century) which represents a devotional (bhakti) masterpiece. In this work Goswami describes the nature and different forms of pure love (rasa) as well as various other topics on Vaishnavism and devotion.

निर्वेदो विषये स्थायि तत्त्व-ज्ञानोद्भवः स चेत् ।
इष्टानिष्ट-वियोगाप्ति-कृतस् तु व्यभिचार्य् असौ ॥३.१.५१॥

nirvedo viṣaye sthāyi tattva-jñānodbhavaḥ sa cet |
iṣṭāniṣṭa-viyogāpti-kṛtas tu vyabhicāry asau ||3.1.51||

English translation

“इf निर्वेद (सेल्f-देप्रेचतिओन्) अरिसेस् fरोम् क्नोwलेद्गे ओf थे अब्सोलुते त्रुथ्, थेन् इत् चन् बे चल्लेद् अ स्थायी-भाव दिरेच्तेद् तोwअर्द् थे लोर्द्. बुत् इf इत् अरिसेस् fरोम् देप्रिवतिओन् ओf देअर् इतेम्स् ओर् अत्तैन्मेन्त् ओf देतेस्तेद् इतेम्स्, इत् इस् अ व्यभिचारी-भाव.”

इति श्री-श्री-भक्ति-रसामृत-सिन्धौ पश्चिम-विभागे
मुख्य-भक्ति-रस-पञ्चक-निरूपणे
शान्त-भक्ति-रस-लहरी प्रथमा ॥

“If nirveda (self-deprecation) arises from knowledge of the Absolute Truth, then it can be called a sthāyī-bhāva directed toward the Lord. But if it arises from deprivation of dear items or attainment of detested items, it is a vyabhicārī-bhāva.”

iti śrī-śrī-bhakti-rasāmṛta-sindhau paścima-vibhāge
mukhya-bhakti-rasa-pañcaka-nirūpaṇe
śānta-bhakti-rasa-laharī prathamā
||

English translation

“Thus ends the First Wave in the Western Ocean of Śrī Bhakti-rasāmṛta-sindhu, concerning śānta-bhakti-rasa.”
