The English translation of the Sri Bhakti-rasamrta-sindhu verse 3.1.3; a medieval era Sanskrit book, written by Rupa Goswami (fl. 15th century) which represents a devotional (bhakti) masterpiece. In this work Goswami describes the nature and different forms of pure love (rasa) as well as various other topics on Vaishnavism and devotion.

अतो’त्र पाञ्चविध्येन लहर्यः पञ्च कीर्तिताः ।
अथामी पञ्च लक्ष्यन्ते रसाः शान्तादयः क्रमात् ॥३.१.३॥

ato’tra pāñcavidhyena laharyaḥ pañca kīrtitāḥ |
athāmī pañca lakṣyante rasāḥ śāntādayaḥ kramāt ||3.1.3||

English translation

“In this Western Ocean, the five waves are named according to the five types of [primary] rasa. Thus the chapters are designated as the five [primary] rasas beginning with śānta, etc.”
