The English translation of the Sri Bhakti-rasamrta-sindhu verse 2.5.121; a medieval era Sanskrit book, written by Rupa Goswami (fl. 15th century) which represents a devotional (bhakti) masterpiece. In this work Goswami describes the nature and different forms of pure love (rasa) as well as various other topics on Vaishnavism and devotion.

पूर्तिः शान्ते विकाशस् तु प्रीतादिष्व् अपि पञ्चसु ।
वीरे’द्भुते च विस्तारो विक्षेपः करुणोग्रयोः ।
भयानके’थ बीभत्से क्षोभो धीरैर् उदाहृतः ॥२.५.१२१॥

pūrtiḥ śānte vikāśas tu prītādiṣv api pañcasu |
vīre’dbhute ca vistāro vikṣepaḥ karuṇograyoḥ |
bhayānake’tha bībhatse kṣobho dhīrair udāhṛtaḥ
||2.5.121||

English translation

“The learned say that pūrti (satisfaction) is manifested in śānta-rasa, vikāśa (brightness) is manifested in all the rasas from prīti to hāsya, vistāra (expansion) is manifested in vīra-rasa and adbhuta-rasa, vikṣepa (distraction) is manifest in karuṇa-rasa and raudra-rasa, and kṣobha (disturbance) is manifest in bhayānaka-rasa and bībhatsa-rasa.”
