The English translation of the Sri Bhakti-rasamrta-sindhu verse 2.5.115; a medieval era Sanskrit book, written by Rupa Goswami (fl. 15th century) which represents a devotional (bhakti) masterpiece. In this work Goswami describes the nature and different forms of pure love (rasa) as well as various other topics on Vaishnavism and devotion.

तत्र मुख्यः —
मुख्यस् तु पञ्चधा शान्तः प्रीतः प्रेयांश् च वत्सलः ।
मधुरश् चेत्य् अमी ज्ञेया यथा-पूर्वम् अनुत्तमाः ॥२.५.११५॥

tatra mukhyaḥ
mukhyas tu pañcadhā śāntaḥ prītaḥ preyāṃś ca vatsalaḥ |
madhuraś cety amī jñeyā yathā-pūrvam anuttamāḥ
||2.5.115||

English translation

Mukhya-rasa (primary rasa):
“The primary bhakti-rasas are five: śānta, prīti, preyo, vatsala and madhurya. The order of excellence is from first to last.”
