The English translation of the Sri Bhakti-rasamrta-sindhu verse 2.5.107; a medieval era Sanskrit book, written by Rupa Goswami (fl. 15th century) which represents a devotional (bhakti) masterpiece. In this work Goswami describes the nature and different forms of pure love (rasa) as well as various other topics on Vaishnavism and devotion.

किं च —
रतिः स्थितानुकार्येषु लौकिकत्वादि-हेतुभिः ।
रसः स्यान् नेति नाट्य-ज्ञा यद् आहुर् युक्तम् एव तत् ॥२.५.१०७॥

kiṃ ca —
ratiḥ sthitānukāryeṣu laukikatvādi-hetubhiḥ |
rasaḥ syān neti nāṭya-jñā yad āhur yuktam eva tat
||2.5.107||

English translation

“However, it is correct when the literary experts say that rati depicted in characters through literary works will not in itself produce rasa, since mundane aspects are involved.”
