The English translation of the Sri Bhakti-rasamrta-sindhu verse 2.5.33; a medieval era Sanskrit book, written by Rupa Goswami (fl. 15th century) which represents a devotional (bhakti) masterpiece. In this work Goswami describes the nature and different forms of pure love (rasa) as well as various other topics on Vaishnavism and devotion.

अथ वात्सल्यम् —
गुरवो ये हरेर् अस्य ते पूज्या इति विश्रुताः ।
अनुग्रह-मयी तेषां रतिर् वात्सल्यम् उच्यते ।
इदं लालन-भव्याशीश् चिबुक-स्पर्शनादि-कृत् ॥२.५.३३॥

atha vātsalyam —
guravo ye harer asya te pūjyā iti viśrutāḥ |
anugraha-mayī teṣāṃ ratir vātsalyam ucyate |
idaṃ lālana-bhavyāśīś cibuka-sparśanādi-kṛt
||2.5.33||

English translation

Vatsala-rati:
“Those persons whose rati identifies them as superiors to the Lord are known as pūjya, worthy of respect or elders. Their rati, which gives mercy to Kṛṣṇa, is called vātsalya or vatsala. In this rati, there is protecting Kṛṣṇa, blessing Him, kissing Him and touching Him.”
