The English translation of the Sri Bhakti-rasamrta-sindhu verse 2.5.18; a medieval era Sanskrit book, written by Rupa Goswami (fl. 15th century) which represents a devotional (bhakti) masterpiece. In this work Goswami describes the nature and different forms of pure love (rasa) as well as various other topics on Vaishnavism and devotion.

प्रायः शम-प्रधानानां ममता-गन्ध-वर्जिता ।
परमात्मतया कृष्णे जाता शान्त-रतिर् मता ॥२.५.१८॥

prāyaḥ śama-pradhānānāṃ mamatā-gandha-varjitā |
paramātmatayā kṛṣṇe jātā śānta-ratir matā
||2.5.18||

English translation

“That rati arising in persons with a predominance of śama (ātmā-jñāna), which is devoid of even a trace of possessiveness for the Lord, but which produces attraction for the Lord in the form of Paramātmā is called śānta-rati.”
