The English translation of the Sri Bhakti-rasamrta-sindhu verse 2.4.262; a medieval era Sanskrit book, written by Rupa Goswami (fl. 15th century) which represents a devotional (bhakti) masterpiece. In this work Goswami describes the nature and different forms of pure love (rasa) as well as various other topics on Vaishnavism and devotion.

पत्तनाभं महिष्ठं स्यात् क्षोदिष्ठं तु कुटिरवत् ।
चित्त-युग्मे’त्र भावस्य दीपेनेभेन वोपमा ॥२.४.२६२॥

pattanābhaṃ mahiṣṭhaṃ syāt kṣodiṣṭhaṃ tu kuṭiravat |
citta-yugme’tra bhāvasya dīpenebhena vopamā
||2.4.262||

English translation

“The expansive heart is like a city and the small heart is like a hut. Bhāva is like a lamp or an elephant for these two types of hearts.”
