The English translation of the Sri Bhakti-rasamrta-sindhu verse 2.4.257; a medieval era Sanskrit book, written by Rupa Goswami (fl. 15th century) which represents a devotional (bhakti) masterpiece. In this work Goswami describes the nature and different forms of pure love (rasa) as well as various other topics on Vaishnavism and devotion.

विविधानां तु भक्तानां वैशिष्ट्याद् विविधं मनः ।
मनो’नुसाराद् भावानां तारतम्यं किलोदये ॥२.४.२५७॥

vividhānāṃ tu bhaktānāṃ vaiśiṣṭyād vividhaṃ manaḥ |
mano’nusārād bhāvānāṃ tāratamyaṃ kilodaye
||2.4.257||

English translation

“There is a variety of mentalities of various types of devotees (devotees in śānta-rasa, dāsya-rasa, etc.). According to the variety of mentalities, there are also various gradations of the appearance of the bhāvas because of various natures such as gariṣṭha (heavy-hearted).”
