The English translation of the Sri Bhakti-rasamrta-sindhu verse 2.4.128; a medieval era Sanskrit book, written by Rupa Goswami (fl. 15th century) which represents a devotional (bhakti) masterpiece. हेतुः कश्चिद् भवेत् कश्चिद् गोप्यः कश्चन गोपनः ।
इति भाव-त्रयस्यात्र विनियोगः समीक्ष्यते ॥२.४.१२७॥
हेतुत्वं गोपनत्वं च गोप्यत्वं चात्र सम्भवेत् ।
प्रायेण सर्व-भावानाम् एकशो’नेकशो’पि च ॥२.४.१२८॥hetuḥ kaścid bhavet kaścid gopyaḥ kaścana gopanaḥ |
iti bhāva-trayasyātra viniyogaḥ samīkṣyate ||2.4.127||
hetutvaṃ gopanatvaṃ ca gopyatvaṃ cātra sambhavet |
prāyeṇa sarva-bhāvānām ekaśo’nekaśo’pi ca ||2.4.128||
English translation
“Three bhāvas will be seen operating in this situation: one as a cause, one that is concealed and one bhāva that conceals another. Individually or as a group, the bhāvas may act as a cause, being concealed or concealing.”
