The English translation of the Sri Bhakti-rasamrta-sindhu verse 2.4.102; a medieval era Sanskrit book, written by Rupa Goswami (fl. 15th century) which represents a devotional (bhakti) masterpiece. In this work Goswami describes the nature and different forms of pure love (rasa) as well as various other topics on Vaishnavism and devotion.

प्रायो’त्र मरणात् पूर्वा चित्त-वृत्तिर् मृतिर् मता ।
मृतिर् अत्रानुभावः स्याद् इति केनचिद् उच्यते ।
किन्तु नायक-वीर्य् आर्थं शत्रौ मरणम् उच्यते ॥२.४.१०२॥prāyo’tra maraṇāt pūrvā citta-vṛttir mṛtir matā |
mṛtir atrānubhāvaḥ syād iti kenacid ucyate |
kintu nāyaka-vīry ārthaṃ śatrau maraṇam ucyate ||2.4.102||
English translation
“The state of consciousness just before death is generally called mṛti. However, some say that mṛti should be considered only an external similarity to death (anubhāva). It has been described in the enemies of Kṛṣṇa (although in that case it is not the vyābhicārī-bhāva called mṛti) just to show His power.”
