The English translation of the Sri Bhakti-rasamrta-sindhu verse 2.4.56; a medieval era Sanskrit book, written by Rupa Goswami (fl. 15th century) which represents a devotional (bhakti) masterpiece. In this work Goswami describes the nature and different forms of pure love (rasa) as well as various other topics on Vaishnavism and devotion.

घोर-सत्त्वेन, यथा —
अदूरम् आसेदुषि वल्लवाङ्गना
स्वं पुङ्गवीकृत्य सुरारि-पुङ्गवे ।
कृष्ण-भ्रमेणाशु तरङ्गद्-अङ्गिका
तमालम् आलिङ्ग्य बभूव निश्चला ॥२.४.५६॥

ghora-sattvena, yathā —
adūram āseduṣi vallavāṅganā
svaṃ puṅgavīkṛtya surāri-puṅgave |
kṛṣṇa-bhrameṇāśu taraṅgad-aṅgikā
tamālam āliṅgya babhūva niścalā
||2.4.56||

English translation

Terror from ferocious beasts:
“When Vṛṣāsura approached, taking the form of a bull, some of the gopīs began to tremble. Suddenly embracing a tamāla tree, mistaking it for Kṛṣṇa, they could not move.”
