The English translation of the Sri Bhakti-rasamrta-sindhu verse 2.4.54; a medieval era Sanskrit book, written by Rupa Goswami (fl. 15th century) which represents a devotional (bhakti) masterpiece. In this work Goswami describes the nature and different forms of pure love (rasa) as well as various other topics on Vaishnavism and devotion.

अथ (९) त्रासः —
त्रासः क्षोभो हृदि तडिद्-घोर-सत्त्वोग्र-निस्वनैः ।
पार्श्वस्थालम्ब-रोमाञ्च-कम्प-स्तम्भ-भ्रमादि-कृत् ॥२.४.५४॥

trāsaḥ kṣobho hṛdi taḍid-ghora-sattvogra-nisvanaiḥ |
pārśvasthālamba-romāñca-kampa-stambha-bhramādi-kṛt
||2.4.54||

English translation

“The disturbance arising in the heart from lightning, fearful creatures or a loud sound is called trāsa (terror). In this state a person grasps nearby objects for support, his hairs stand on end, he quivers, becomes paralyzed and wanders about.”
