The English translation of the Sri Bhakti-rasamrta-sindhu verse 2.4.48; a medieval era Sanskrit book, written by Rupa Goswami (fl. 15th century) which represents a devotional (bhakti) masterpiece. In this work Goswami describes the nature and different forms of pure love (rasa) as well as various other topics on Vaishnavism and devotion.

अथ (८) शङ्का —
स्वीय-चौर्यापराधादेः पर-क्रौर्यादितस् तथा ।
स्वानिष्टोत्प्रेक्षणं यत् तु सा शङ्केत्य् अभिधीयते ।
अत्रास्य-शोष-वैवर्ण्य-दिक्-प्रेक्षा-लीनतादयः ॥२.४.४८॥

atha (8) śaṅkā
svīya-cauryāparādhādeḥ para-krauryāditas tathā |
svāniṣṭotprekṣaṇaṃ yat tu sā śaṅkety abhidhīyate |
atrāsya-śoṣa-vaivarṇya-dik-prekṣā-līnatādayaḥ
||2.4.48||

English translation

“Apprehension due to committing theft, offense or others’ cruelty is called śaṅkā. In this state there is drying of the mouth, change of complexion, glancing in all directions and hiding oneself.”
