The English translation of the Sri Bhakti-rasamrta-sindhu verse 2.4.21; a medieval era Sanskrit book, written by Rupa Goswami (fl. 15th century) which represents a devotional (bhakti) masterpiece. In this work Goswami describes the nature and different forms of pure love (rasa) as well as various other topics on Vaishnavism and devotion.

अथ (३) दैन्यम् —
दुःख-त्रासापराधाद्यैर् अनौर्जित्यं तु दीनता ।
चाटु-कृन्-मान्द्य-मालिन्य-चिन्ताङ्ग-जडिमादि-कृत् ॥२.४.२१॥

atha (3) dainyam —
duḥkha-trāsāparādhādyair anaurjityaṃ tu dīnatā |
cāṭu-kṛn-māndya-mālinya-cintāṅga-jaḍimādi-kṛt
||2.4.21||

English translation

“Thinking oneself a low creature because of sorrow, fear or offense is called dainyam or dīnatā. In this state there are words of flattery, feebleness of the heart, impurity of the heart, thinking various thoughts and immobility of the limbs.”
