The English translation of the Sri Bhakti-rasamrta-sindhu verse 2.3.66; a medieval era Sanskrit book, written by Rupa Goswami (fl. 15th century) which represents a devotional (bhakti) masterpiece. In this work Goswami describes the nature and different forms of pure love (rasa) as well as various other topics on Vaishnavism and devotion.

तत्राश्रूणां दृग्-औच्छून्य-कारित्वम् अवदातता ।
तथा तारातिवैचित्री-वैलक्षण्य-विधायिता ।
वैस्वर्ण्यस्य तु भिन्नत्वे कौण्ठ्य-व्याकुलतादयः ॥२.३.६६॥

tatrāśrūṇāṃ dṛg-aucchūnya-kāritvam avadātatā |
tathā tārātivaicitrī-vailakṣaṇya-vidhāyitā |
vaisvarṇyasya tu bhinnatve kauṇṭhya-vyākulatādayaḥ ||2.3.66||

English translation

“The special features of tears are swelling of the eyes and whiteness of the eyes. The pupils of the eyes become extremely colorful. The special features of choking of the voice are breaking of the voice, weakness of the voice and fluctuation of tone.”
