The English translation of the Sri Bhakti-rasamrta-sindhu verse 2.3.37; a medieval era Sanskrit book, written by Rupa Goswami (fl. 15th century) which represents a devotional (bhakti) masterpiece. In this work Goswami describes the nature and different forms of pure love (rasa) as well as various other topics on Vaishnavism and devotion.

अथ स्वर-भेदः —
विसाद-विस्मयामर्ष-हर्ष-भीत्य्-आदि-सम्भवम् ।
वैस्वर्यं स्वर-भेदः स्याद् एष गद्गदिकादिकृत् ॥२.३.३७॥

atha svara-bhedaḥ
visāda-vismayāmarṣa-harṣa-bhīty-ādi-sambhavam |
vaisvaryaṃ svara-bhedaḥ syād eṣa gadgadikādikṛt ||2.3.37||

English translation

Choking of the voice:
“Distortion of the voice is called svara-bheda. It arises from sorrow, astonishment, anger, joy and fear. It causes convulsions in speaking.”
