The English translation of the Sri Bhakti-rasamrta-sindhu verse 2.3.23; a medieval era Sanskrit book, written by Rupa Goswami (fl. 15th century) which represents a devotional (bhakti) masterpiece. भयाद्, यथा —
गिरि-सन्निभ-मल्ल-चक्र-रुद्धं
पुरतः प्राण-परार्धतः परार्ध्यम् ।
तनयं जननी समीक्ष्य शुष्यन्
नयना हन्त बभूव निश्चलाङ्गी ॥२.३.२३॥bhayād, yathā —
giri-sannibha-malla-cakra-ruddhaṃ
purataḥ prāṇa-parārdhataḥ parārdhyam |
tanayaṃ jananī samīkṣya śuṣyan
nayanā hanta babhūva niścalāṅgī ||2.3.23||
English translation
From fear:
“When Devakī saw her son Kṛṣṇa, dearer than billions of lives, being attacked by wrestlers, her eyes became dry and she became paralyzed.”
