The English translation of the Sri Bhakti-rasamrta-sindhu verse 2.3.13; a medieval era Sanskrit book, written by Rupa Goswami (fl. 15th century) which represents a devotional (bhakti) masterpiece. In this work Goswami describes the nature and different forms of pure love (rasa) as well as various other topics on Vaishnavism and devotion.

यथा —
भोगैक-साधन-जुषा रति-गन्ध-शून्यं
स्वं चेष्टया हृदयम् अत्र विवृण्वतो’पि ।
उल्लासिनः सपदि माधव-केलि-गीतैस्
तस्याङ्गम् उत्पुलकितं मधुरैस् तदासीत् ॥२.३.१३॥

yathā —
bhogaika-sādhana-juṣā rati-gandha-śūnyaṃ
svaṃ ceṣṭayā hṛdayam atra vivṛṇvato’pi
|
ullāsinaḥ sapadi mādhava-keli-gītais
tasyāṅgam utpulakitaṃ madhurais tadāsīt
||2.3.13||

English translation

An example:
“A person who is revealed to be devoid of rati by absorbing himself in the pursuit of material enjoyment may develop hairs standing on end after being excited by songs concerning the pastimes of Mādhava.”
