The English translation of the Sri Bhakti-rasamrta-sindhu verse 2.2.17; a medieval era Sanskrit book, written by Rupa Goswami (fl. 15th century) which represents a devotional (bhakti) masterpiece. In this work Goswami describes the nature and different forms of pure love (rasa) as well as various other topics on Vaishnavism and devotion.

अट्टहासः —
हासाद् भिन्नो’ट्टहासो’यं चित्त-विक्षेप-सम्भवः ॥२.२.१७॥

aṭṭahāsaḥ
hāsād bhinno’ṭṭahāso’yaṃ citta-vikṣepa-sambhavaḥ
||2.2.17||

English translation

Laughing loudly:
“Laughing that arises from a disturbance of the heart is called laughing loudly [aṭṭahāsa]. This is different from a normal laugh,”
