The English translation of the Sri Bhakti-rasamrta-sindhu verse 2.1.188; a medieval era Sanskrit book, written by Rupa Goswami (fl. 15th century) which represents a devotional (bhakti) masterpiece. In this work Goswami describes the nature and different forms of pure love (rasa) as well as various other topics on Vaishnavism and devotion.

यथा —
क्लेशे क्रमात् पञ्च-विधे क्षयं गते
यद्-ब्रह्म-सौख्यं स्वयम् अस्फुरत् परम् ।
तद् व्यर्थयन् कः पुरतो नराकृतिः
श्यामो’यम् आमोद-भरः प्रकाशते ॥२.१.१८८॥

yathā —
kleśe kramāt pañca-vidhe kṣayaṃ gate
yad-brahma-saukhyaṃ svayam asphurat param |
tad vyarthayan kaḥ purato narākṛtiḥ
śyāmo’yam āmoda-bharaḥ prakāśate
||2.1.188||

English translation

“Who is that person standing before us, revealing a human form black in color, full of bliss, who covers even the happiness of brahman which appears spontaneously after the five types of suffering have been destroyed?”
