The English translation of the Sri Bhakti-rasamrta-sindhu verse 1.3.45; a medieval era Sanskrit book, written by Rupa Goswami (fl. 15th century) which represents a devotional (bhakti) masterpiece. In this work Goswami describes the nature and different forms of pure love (rasa) as well as various other topics on Vaishnavism and devotion.

प्रतिबिम्बस् तथा च्छाया रत्य्-आभासो द्विधा मतः ॥१.३.४५॥

pratibimbas tathā cchāyā raty-ābhāso dvidhā mataḥ ||1.3.45||

English translation

“Though this semblance of rati is very astonishing to the innocent, those in knowledge understand what it really is by seeing the characteristics [of the person displaying so-called rati]. This is called ratyābhāsa, a semblance of rati. This semblance of rati has two types: reflection (pratibimba) and splendor (chāyā).”
