The English translation of the Sri Bhakti-rasamrta-sindhu verse 1.3.41 ; a medieval era Sanskrit book, written by Rupa Goswami (fl. 15th century) which represents a devotional (bhakti) masterpiece. In this work Goswami describes the nature and different forms of pure love (rasa) as well as various other topics on Vaishnavism and devotion.

अपि च —
व्यक्तं मसृणितेवान्तर् लक्ष्यते रति-लक्षणम् ।
मुमुक्षु-प्रभृतीनां चेद् भवेद् एषा रतिर् न हि ॥१.३.४१ ॥

api ca —
vyaktaṃ masṛṇitevāntar lakṣyate rati-lakṣaṇam |
mumukṣu-prabhṛtīnāṃ ced bhaved eṣā ratir na hi
||1.3.41 ||

English translation

“However it should be said: if softness of the heart, the symptom of rati, becomes clearly visible in persons desiring liberation, or in other unqualified persons, then it is not real rati.”
