The English translation of the Sri Bhakti-rasamrta-sindhu verse 1.3.33 ; a medieval era Sanskrit book, written by Rupa Goswami (fl. 15th century) which represents a devotional (bhakti) masterpiece. In this work Goswami describes the nature and different forms of pure love (rasa) as well as various other topics on Vaishnavism and devotion.

यथा पाद्मे —
हरौ रतिं वहन्न् एष नरेन्द्राणां शिखा-मणिः ।
भिक्षाम् अटन्न् अरि-पुरे श्वपाकम् अपि वन्दते ॥१.३.३३ ॥

yathā pādme —
harau ratiṃ vahann eṣa narendrāṇāṃ śikhā-maṇiḥ |
bhikṣām aṭann ari-pure śvapākam api vandate
||1.3.33 ||

English translation

Pridelessness is illustrated in Padma Purāṇa:
“King Bhagirātha, though the crest jewel among kings, went out begging at the house of his enemies and offered respects to the dog-eaters, because he had rati for the Lord.”
