The English translation of the Sri Bhakti-rasamrta-sindhu verse 1.3.5; a medieval era Sanskrit book, written by Rupa Goswami (fl. 15th century) which represents a devotional (bhakti) masterpiece. In this work Goswami describes the nature and different forms of pure love (rasa) as well as various other topics on Vaishnavism and devotion.

आविर्भूय मनो-वृत्तौ व्रजन्ति तत्-स्वरूपतां ।
स्वयं-प्रकाश-रूपापि भासमाना प्राकाश्यवत् ॥१.३.४॥
वस्तुतः स्वयम् आस्वाद-स्वरूपैव रतिस् त्व् असौ ।
कृष्णादि-कर्मकास्वाद-हेतुत्वं प्रतिपद्यते ॥१.३.५॥

āvirbhūya mano-vṛttau vrajanti tat-svarūpatāṃ |
svayaṃ-prakāśa-rūpāpi bhāsamānā prākāśyavat ||1.3.4||
vastutaḥ svayam āsvāda-svarūpaiva ratis tv asau |
kṛṣṇādi-karmakāsvāda-hetutvaṃ pratipadyate
||1.3.5||

English translation

“Appearing in the mental functions, bhāva becomes the mental state itself. Though bhāva is self-revealing, it appears to become manifest by the mind. Though in its essential nature it is taste itself, it also acts as a cause of tasting the pastimes of Kṛṣṇa, His associates, His form and His qualities.”
