The English translation of the Sri Bhakti-rasamrta-sindhu verse 1.2.284 ; a medieval era Sanskrit book, written by Rupa Goswami (fl. 15th century) which represents a devotional (bhakti) masterpiece. In this work Goswami describes the nature and different forms of pure love (rasa) as well as various other topics on Vaishnavism and devotion.

इयं तु व्रज-देवीषु सुप्रसिद्धा विराजते ।
आसां प्रेम-विशेषो’यं प्राप्तः काम् अपि माधुरीं ।
तत्-तत्-क्रीडा-निदानत्वात् काम इत्य् उच्यते बुधैः ॥१.२.२८४ ॥

iyaṃ tu vraja-devīṣu suprasiddhā virājate |
āsāṃ prema-viśeṣo’yaṃ prāptaḥ kām api mādhurīṃ |
tat-tat-krīḍā-nidānatvāt kāma ity ucyate budhaiḥ
||1.2.284 ||

English translation

“This very famous kāmarūpa-bhakti appears with brilliance in the women of Vraja. They have a particular type of prema that has a special sweetness. It is called kāma by the wise because it is the cause of various amorous actions.”
