The English translation of the Sri Bhakti-rasamrta-sindhu verse 1.2.117; a medieval era Sanskrit book, written by Rupa Goswami (fl. 15th century) which represents a devotional (bhakti) masterpiece. In this work Goswami describes the nature and different forms of pure love (rasa) as well as various other topics on Vaishnavism and devotion.

१८- भूतानुद्वेग-दायिता, यथा महाभारते —
पितेव पुत्रं करुणो नोद्वेजयति यो जनम् ।
विशुद्धस्य हृषीकेशस् तूर्णं तस्य प्रसीदति ॥१.२.११७॥

18- bhūtānudvega-dāyitā, yathā mahābhārate —
piteva putraṃ karuṇo nodvejayati yo janam |
viśuddhasya hṛṣīkeśas tūrṇaṃ tasya prasīdati
||1.2.117||

English translation

Not inflicting pain on other living entities, from the Mahābhārata:
“That pure person who does not inflict pain on others, being merciful like a father to his son, quickly pleases the master of the senses.”
